Income derived from corporate sponsorship has made an enormous difference to the ability of the Downlands Trust to fund the maintenance of our wonderful chalk downlands for the benefit of their flora and fauna and for the enjoyment of the public.
The Downlands Trust supports the Downlands Partnership, an organisation hosted by Surrey County Council that provides a well-established countryside management service with the vital assistance of volunteers. The Trust supports this and other local conservation and environmental groups by awarding grants for a variety of purposes, including the purchase of vehicles, equipment and livestock.
Since the Trust was founded in 2008 it has developed relationships with a variety of organisations, both large and small. Some have been major corporations such as Veolia and Fidelity International, whilst others have been small businesses including solicitors or estate agents such as are found in local shopping parades. For example, Park & Bailey are estate agents with offices in the Caterham, Coulsdon and Warlingham Area and have been providing significant corporate sponsorship since 2014 for the Sanderstead to Whyteleafe Countryside Area through the Downlands Trust. This funding has been put to excellent use through the purchase of tools and equipment for conservation volunteers and for environmental education materials.
All donations, large or small, are greatly appreciated by the Trust and donors have the opportunity to nominate how or where their contributions are spent. For example, there may be a preference for livestock purchase or perhaps for funding the restoration of a pond.
For larger corporates, the Downlands Partnership is able to organise corporate activity days, enabling a group of staff to meet on one of their sites and help with activities such as scrub clearance and learn skills such as hedge laying. There may also be the opportunity to visit the Partnership’s base at Old Lodge Farm in Carshalton during the lambing season and at Christmas to enjoy some seasonal activities there such as wreath making. Fidelity has sponsored the Trust from 2019 to 2023 and the pictures below illustrate some of the activities that their staff were able to enjoy in association with the Downlands Partnership, including making Christmas wreaths, hedge laying and scrub clearance.
The help provided by our sponsors is always acknowledged in our newsletter which is distributed to a variety of countryside and conservation organisations. In addition, the opportunity may present itself for a sponsor to have a small plaque attached to a bench or noticeboard.
If you would like to discuss the sponsorship opportunities available for your organisation we would be delighted to speak with you. In the first instance, please email [email protected].
