How To Volunteer
What is great for health, happiness and habitat?
Conservation volunteering with our partner organisation, the Downlands Partnership!
The Downlands Trust itself does not undertake any practical conservation work, but our friends and partners at the Downlands Partnership would love to hear from you should you like to consider becoming a local practical conservation volunteer.
You would be joining a group of like-minded, dedicated, friendly people of all ages who love helping to look after their glorious local countryside.
There is no fixed commitment, you can join the volunteering crew for the day (10am to 4pm) or just for the morning as often as you like; all help really does make a real difference. You need to be fairly fit, but can of course work at your own pace and take breaks as required.
Task days are currently run on Mondays (Sanderstead to Whyteleafe Countryside Area), Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and on 1 or 2 Sundays per month plus some special Saturdays throughout the year, come rain or shine!
Visit the Downlands Partnership website to find out more and to view/download the current volunteering task programme which contains full details on how to get involved, including what to wear, expect and bring along. Alternatively call 01883 341140 to speak to a member of the Downlands Partnership team. Please also visit the Downlands Partnership's Facebook page to gain an insight into the task days. Community and corporate groups, large or small, are also very welcome for conservation volunteering days and contact details to arrange this can be found on the Partnership's website.
There are also opportunities to get involved as a local voluntary livestock checker and details can also be found on the website or call the Downlands Partnership Grazing Team direct on 07968 832692. Also check out the Grazing Team on Twitter @downygrazers.
In return for your time you will get plenty of exercise – often with fantastic views and flora and fauna – without the need for gym fees and you will gain a great sense of achievement, working as part of a team doing your bit for your local natural environment. It is also a very useful way of gaining work experience in countryside management. They look forward to welcoming you along very soon, click on the slideshow below to see the wonderful variety of activities that they enjoy!
